Accounts Assistant

Salary: £25000 - £30000

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

KCR Solutions are delighted to be recruiting an Accounts Assistant to join a dynamic accountancy practice in Newcastle. The ideal candidate will be organised, confident communicating with clients and HMRC, and comfortable working with cloud-based accounting software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform client bookkeeping on cloud accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
  • Code and analyse financial transactions accurately.
  • Reconcile bank and cash accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare management accounts for internal and client reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual accounts up to trial balance.
  • Complete and submit VAT returns for a range of clients.
  • Review VAT returns prepared by others prior to final submission.
  • Ensure VAT compliance in line with current HMRC regulations.
  • Communicate with clients professionally via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Liaise with HMRC regarding client queries, submissions, and compliance matters.
  • Provide timely updates and guidance to clients regarding their financial information.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a similar accounts or bookkeeping role (practice experience beneficial).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and work to deadlines.
  • Knowledge of VAT rules and submissions.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Experience with cloud accounting platforms (Xero/QuickBooks/Sage) preferred.
